Of the father and the son

The sheer joy and delight
And the absence of any worries
Of present and future
Make their presence felt
In the moments you're around

The regrets of the past, and of the things
That didn't materialize
Get dissipated, buried, and blown away
In the moments you're around

The giggles, the squeals, the shrieks
That keep reverberating through the house
Are music to my ears, constantly reminding me
Of the presence of some godly innocence

Your reaching out to everything around you,
Getting hold of them with those little delicate hands
And invariably putting them in the mouth
Are real pleasing sights to behold

While playing with you,
I again found the lost child in me,
That'd got left somewhere far behind,
In the rut of life

To hum to put you to sleep
Is just so surreal, magical an experience
I wanna keep coming back to,
For it's so meditative, so relaxing

You're each day teaching me-
To be happy without reason,
To be in the present and to smile
To be yourself, and sometimes carefree-
Without worrying about getting judged

In caring for you and while solacing you
I'm learning to be patient...to be patient
When the other person isn't willing to listen
And when things get out of control

From your mere being around
Such feelings felt never before
Get evoked in abundance,
Leaving me sometimes mesmerized
And sometimes with teary eyes
...tears of indescribable happiness and love !!!

But then, a dejecting thought occurs that--
This godly innocence, the divine purity and the raw smile
Will inevitably wane
And, one day, will cease to exist
As you become a part this crafty world

But regardless of the temporal concerns
And the crafty world around you
I'd rather see you
To be the person who always values--
Morality over material
Kindness over greed
Empathy over ignorance
And humanity over any other identity !
